Contrast Chessboard

A chessboard built the old way: solid squares of pale ash and dark walnut, cut and joined by hand in our workshop in Sóller. Each square runs the full depth of the board, so the pattern isn't a thin veneer laid over the surface. The same chequer you see on top carries down every edge and shows cleanly along the sides. It's a slower way to make a board, and the result is solid and honest, built to stand up to years of games.

Because every board is cut and assembled by hand, no two are quite alike. Grain, tone and the small marks of the making will vary from piece to piece. We see these as character rather than flaws, the quiet signature of a board made by people rather than machines. The design is simple and modern, letting the natural contrast between ash and walnut do the work. It sits comfortably on a coffee table, a study shelf or a long table after dinner.

There's something of the Sóller valley in the rhythm of an evening game: unhurried, sociable and worth taking your time over. This board is made for exactly that. It's a thoughtful gift for a keen player or a lasting piece for your own home. To care for it, simply wipe it with a dry cloth.
